L’Oréal is driven by the conviction that the world needs science and science needs women and the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program aims to nurture the talent of the future and foster a global scientific community that continues to grow each year.
The initiative has become a benchmark for international scientific excellence and an invaluable source of motivation, support and inspiration for women in the scientific field.
L’ORÉAL AND UNESCO: A UNIQUE PARTNERSHIP FOR A PIONEERING PROGRAM
Launched in 1998 by L’ORÉAL and UNESCO, the “ For Women in Science” Award was the first international program devoted to women in science. Almost 900 women scientists have been distinguished by the Awards or supported in the pursuit of their career since the creation of the L’Oréal- UNESCO partnership.
The unique partnership has developed an ambitious program:
L’ORÉAL-UNESCO Awards, the founding act of the program. These prestigious annual distinctions awarded to five leading women researchers, one per continent, identify exceptional women as role models for the generations to come.
UNESCO-L’ORÉAL International Fellowships. Granted annually since 2000 to 15 promising young women scientists. Candidates applied through their National Commission for UNESCO and the research project to be carried outside their country of origin.
L’Oréal National Fellowships with the support of the National Commission for UNESCO. These Doctoral & Post-Doctoral fellowships are destined for women doing research in their home country.
ENCOURAGING TALENT & EMPOWERING YOUNG WOMEN SCIENTISTS AT NATIONAL LEVEL
L’Oréal Malaysia For Women in Science Fellowships is the extension to the international L’Oréal- UNESCO For Women in Science awards, which provides financial support to 3 young female researchers for the pursuit of their research work in Malaysia and contribution to the development of our country. More importantly, the L’Oréal Malaysia for Women in Science Fellowships provide encouragement to these promising young researchers to continue with their participation and commitment to scientific research in order to emerge as the new generation of women leaders in the field of science. This program will also position these women as significant contributors to the development of sciences that will help Malaysia progress smoothly towards a developed country.
Launched in 2006, this program is supported by the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO and in partnership with the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The For Women in Science program is a major part of philanthropy work which the company believes in and as a good citizenship to link closely the group’s economic growth with strong ethical principles and a genuine awareness of responsibilities to give back to society.
