Program without Precedent:Changing the Face of Science

The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award is a program designed to promote and encourage women who contribute to scientific progress around the world. The initiative has become a benchmark for international scientific excellence and an invaluable source of motivation, support and inspiration for women in the scientific field.

Generally women are under-represented in the research industry with only a very small percentage of women occupy senior positions in scientific fields. Over the past century, only 3% of the Nobel Prize winners were women researchers! And year after year, consistently fewer young women are choosing to pursue careers in science as they face significant challenges in funding and getting recognition they deserve.

L’Oréal is driven by the conviction that the world needs science and science needs women and the program aims to nurture the talent of the future and foster a global scientific community.

L’Oréal Malaysia For Women in Science Fellowships is the extension to the international L’Oréal- UNESCO awards, which provides financial support to 3 young female researchers for the pursuit of their research work in Malaysia and their contribution to the development of our country. Launched in 2006, it is with the support of the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO and in partnership with the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
